2010 Campaign
The Quebec Lung Association and the City of Bécancour invite you to participate in the 2010 provincial ragweed extermination campaign, in an effort to curb the spread of this troublesome plant. Picking up the torch passed on by the City of Sorel-Tracy, which supported the third edition in 2009, the City of Bécancour was named the city in charge of the « 2010 Provincial Ragweed Extermination Campaign ».
This broad weed extermination campaign is an interesting opportunity to reduce the quantity of pollen in the air, given that among all the seasonal allergens known in Quebec, Ambrosia (ragweed) pollen has one of the strongest impacts on public health. Ragweed affects the health of more than 17.5% of Quebecers, which works out to 1,055,390 people. The health costs that are linked to it are estimated to surpass 157 million dollars.
That is why this year we urge you to encourage the participation of industries and businesses established in your area. We know for a fact that these types of businesses are generally surrounded by vacant lots that favour the growth of ragweed.
To participate in the 2010 provincial ragweed extermination campaign, you simply need to send us the form at the following address:
1295, av. Nicolas-Perrot
Bécancour, Québec (G9H 1A1)
The objective set by the City of Bécancour and the Quebec Lung Association is to raise the number of participating cities in 2010.
