AN INSPIRING STORY
My name is Frédéric. I'm 37 years old and I've regained my enthusiasm for living. Despite staying in shape, eating well and living sensibly, I'd always had trouble breathing normally. In fact, I was in constant respiratory distress without really knowing it. Just going to bed was a concern, since I had to consciously control my breathing simply to get to sleep. The slightest effort made me short of breath to the point of illness, resulting in fatigue, strain, depression and professional burnout. When every moment is a struggle to get enough air into your lungs, it's pretty scary.About a year ago, I had a severe bronchial spasm and found myself in the emergency ward. I ended up in hospital for three days. I thought I was dying. My lungs had seemingly decided to suffocate me. It was the worst feeling I'd ever experienced. I learned then that I was asthmatic.
Since receiving the diagnosis, I've been in touch with a respiratory therapist from the Quebec Lung Association-and I feel myself coming back to life. Being able to breathe freely is a precious gift. I feel liberated. Since I began using an inhaler, I've been sleeping like a baby. It's so great to be able to breathe!
I want to thank the Quebec Lung Association for informing me so thoroughly about asthma-and for listening with such empathy. Somebody understood me. I can't tell you how good that feels.
Frédéric
